Solving a Puzzle in a Group Setting Learning a New Song
All our programs at Tom Thumb Preschool
(Half, Extended or Full day) are aimed at developing the social and emotional skills needed for "school
success" . One often hears "kindergarten
readiness" as a goal for preschoolers. Tom Thumb raises the
bar to "lifetime skills" . These
skills are important from grade school through college. Our preschool is
unique and programs have been continuously assessed and improved to adjust to the present culture and our current technologically advanced society.
Each program is geared to a specific age group and keeping the interest of
the child is of paramount importance. Tom Thumb's programs are time tested
and extremely well-thought out.
Highlights of our goals for
all programs (Half, Extended or Full day) are:
- Critical thinking
- Social skills
- Exposure to new interests
- Original thinking
- Independent action to satisfy goals
- Assimilate new
knowledge
- Problem solving
- Fine and gross motor skills
Highlights of our academics:
- Pre-reading
- Pre-writing (include alphabet and numbers)
- Language
- Pre-math
- Science
- Social Studies
- Citizenship
- Music
- Dance
- Physical Education
- Drumming
- French for 4 years olds
Finding children's strengths and emphasizing them
are our main objective. Our teachers assess children and create a plan to
take them a step further. The staff has gone to great lengths to develop a
program that will encourage and stimulate the natural curiosity of young minds. It's important for children to have a free-choice time where they choose
playmates and activities. Tom thumb recognizes the power of play
.
Specific
details about our program can be found in our brochure.
Highlights of Extended Day Program (9AM - 2:15 PM) or Full Day Program (9AM - 3:15 PM)
Children attend preschool in the morning and have
lunch brought from home. In the afternoon, our enrichment program is group-oriented as children often play and do activities with a partner or a small
group. Cooperation is encouraged. Activities are planned, so that children
may choose to participate in different activities. They also take advantage of
our gym,
stage and playgrounds. Specialists are brought in to enhance the educational
experience. The specialists for 2008 - 2009 include:
- Science lesson with a chemist
- Tai Kwon Do
- Talk & Drum (Spanish)
- Ballet and free-movement
- Piano keyboard
- Gymnastics
- Cooking
Further details about our
Extended and Full day program can be found in the brochure.

in detail during your visit and confidential discussion at Tom Thumb Preschool.
