Cullen Malzo, a 2001 graduate of Tom Thumb, is nothing short of a hero. After two teenage girls from Mahopac were involved in a car accident on Thursday, November 10, 2016, Cullen sprung into action. The accident left them trapped in their car, upside down in Lake Mahopac.
Cullen to the Rescue
Police said that 19-year-old Cullen Malzo was nearby when he heard the crash. He dialed 911 and ran to the scene. Without hesitation, Cullen ran into the murky water and quickly pulled the girls out of an open window. Thankfully, the girls only suffered minor injuries.

Cullen Malzo is just that kind of person; compassionate, confident and fearless. From a very young age, Cullen has exhibited these characteristics and his actions are nothing less than heroic. Nancy has been developing the Tom Thumb Campus for over 47 years and still not finish. She founded Tom Thumb as a private school in 1965. She has continuously expanded and enhanced the Tom Thumb Preschool to keep pace with her innovated preschool programs to its present facility of today.
In 1985, she included Dynamic Gymnastics. The campus serves children from 2 years old (Thumbelina), 3 to 5 years (Tom Thumb) and up to 18 years old at Dynamic Gymnastics. In addition, the campus offers an after-school program (Stay & Play) for elementary school children and summer camp (Catch Us If You Can).
Nancy’s goal is to provide the highest quality educational services to improve our society by helping our children reach their full potential. She is committed to her belief, “Children have their own special strengths that time and play will reveal“.
