Cullen Malzo Hero
Cullen Malzo, Tom Thumb Graduate
Cullen Malzo, a 2001 graduate of Tom Thumb, is nothing short of a hero. After two teenage girls from Mahopac were involved in a car accident on Thursday, November 10, 2016, Cullen sprung into action. The accident left them trapped in their car, upside down in Lake Mahopac.
Cullen to the Rescue
Police said that 19-year-old Cullen Malzo was nearby when he heard the crash. He dialed 911 and ran to the scene. Without hesitation, Cullen ran into the murky water and quickly pulled the girls out of an open window. Thankfully, the girls only suffered minor injuries.
We Salute Cullen Our Local Hero
Cullen Malzo is just that kind of person; compassionate, confident and fearless. From a very young age, Cullen has exhibited these characteristics and his actions are nothing less than heroic. Our community is very proud of him. We all have such confidence and pride in our Next Generation of Great Americans, where Cullen Malzo is a remarkable example.
Just Thanks
Dear Nancy and all of the Tom Thumb Staff,
I wanted to just take the time to say thank you so much for the wonderful summer you gave to our daughter Alejandra. Nancy, although we could not afford at the moment to take Ali out of her current daycare to move her to you for the fall, you were nice enough to allow her to come just for the summer to give her a change of pace.
Ali loved camp so much, and I was so impressed with the caliber of the counselors I met.
The fact that you were willing to reimburse us for the days my daughter stayed home with my inlaws who were visiting from Mexico was incredible. I know that this is unusual and we so appreciated it. So often (like in my line of work) people only ever take time out to complain or bring issues. I really wanted to take a moment to just say thank you for all you did.
We greatly look forward to moving both of our children over to you as soon as my youngest is old enough.
Enjoy the rest of the week, and have a nice school year.
Warmly,
Jenn

Ms. Brophy,
I am very sure you get many of these letters but I needed to tell you once more.
I am so impressed, everyday, with what you have done with that school, and how it affects the lives of our children.
I transferred Nate from another preschool for his last year because of all of the rumors, referrals and many compliments regarding you and how you run your school.
My once shy, attached to mom, kid now doesn’t even kiss me goodbye.┬á He walks proudly with confidence each day down “kids way”. My husband and I did not think it was possible because our Nate wasn’t just shy – he was painfully shy.
Yesterday blew our minds. We were confident Nate was going to shy away or freeze but it was just the opposite. I don’t think you truly realize the impact you have had on him and our family. I want to thank you with my whole heart for this amazing gift of confidence you have given him.┬á I will forever appreciate you!!!
I should have listened to my mother-in-law when she begged me to send my kids there from the beginning. My husband and his siblings were all students of TT.
But I believe God wanted TT to be just Nate’s. Being 15 months apart from his big brother they share everything BUT TT. This is his and it will be a memory I will cherish for the rest of my life because you gave my son a smile I’ve never seen – and for that THANK YOU!!!
With all of my appreciation,
Cheryl H.
Thank you note from Patricia A.
Dear Mrs. Brophy,
I couldn’t help but think of Tom Thumb and you yesterday as Charlotte finished her last official day of high school.┬á I was just remembering the banner at preschool graduation which said Class of 2016 — it sounded so far away.
Happy, happy birthday! I hope it is still a big day of celebration at Tom Thumb.
Tom Thumb Alumni Thank You Note
A Tom Thumb First
We receive many thank you notes from parents about the value of Tom Thumb and the terrific results of our program. We always appreciate the feedback and your praises. We try to publish a few of these thank you notes when we manage to get them to our webmaster.
The above note is from a Tom Thumb Alumni, Mrs. Lena, thanking Mrs. Brophy for a wonderful school. It’s always a pleasure to hear from parents that are Tom Thumb Alumni. We believe they have a deeper understanding of our programs and our approach to child development because they went through it.
The above note is from a Tom Thumb Alumni that in itself is really nothing out of the ordinary. We have a number of alumni that have enrolled their children in Tom Thumb over the years. These kids are the second generation of Tom Thumbers. These parents have sent us thank-you notes in the past. We are grateful for the positive feedback and their recommendations and suggestions. In fact, as our thank-you to the alumni, if either parent was a Tom Thumb graduate, they receive a 10% tuition discount. We are honored to have these second-generation students, where one of the parents was a Tom Thumb student.
A bit more of a rarity and a special case is the few students that are the third generation Tom Thumbers. This is a situation where one of the grandparents and either the Mother or Father attended Tom Thumb. They have also thanked us. All of us at Tom Thumb are very thankful and also honored to have these third-generation students attend Tom Thumb.
But, the above Lena Family thank-you-note is a first. This is a thank you note, where both Mother and Father attended Tom Thumb — an extremely rare occurrence of Tom Thumb students being married, having children, living in the area and their kid or kids attending Tom Thumb. What are the chances of something like this happen in the Lakeland School District? If you know of any other families, where both parents are Tom Thumbers and they have a child attending Tom Thumb, please let me know by completing a comment for this blog article.
I guess the most improbable situation is where a third-generation Tom Thumber that has either grandparent or parents that the husband and wife are both Tom Thumb graduates.
A Typical Summer Camp Rainy Day
What Can You Expect at “Catch Us If You Can” Summer Camp during a Rainy Day?
When it’s a rainy day at our summer camp, we still have activities and play inside our Tom Thumb Facilities. The children are able to choose from a variety of┬á fun activities. Campers can play together or by themselves or in combination. Our summer camp, “Catch Us If You Can“, is completely supervised and monitored by adults camp leaders and camp counselors. Our camp is a secure and safe place, where kids have fun and burn energy .
We send our campers home tired, so they will have a good night’s sleep and be ready for the next fun-filled-day of camp with more play. Whether it’s rain or shine, our campers have fun by running around, playing sports, playing games, playing with toys and/or doing arts and crafts. We believe child’s play is the work required for a healthy body and mind. Our Tom Thumb Facility is designed and built for children to play and have fun in a safe and secure environment.
We are “Catch Us If You Can” a terrific summer camp run by Nancy Brophy at Lake Mohegan, New York on the Tom Thumb Campus.
